Research

I came across this research paper looking at CCR divers doing multi-day, multi-dive expeditions. The primary concern of the authors’ was that CCR divers over a multi-day, multi-dive expedition, might be incurring some pulmonary oxygen toxicity which could become a critical issue if the diver(s) required hyperbaric recompression treatment for decompression illness. They found that it was much easier for CCR divers to exceed the recommended repetitive oxygen exposure limits; as the divers did generally approach or exceed the limits. No impairment in lung function was observed, but visual impairment was indicated by several divers and confirmed in at least one diver within the study. This suggests that there may have been some oxygen toxicity occurring. Fortunately, in the one confirmed case of myopia, the condition resolved after eight weeks.

And since we were discussing pulmonary oxygen toxicity above, here is a review paper on pulmonary oxygen toxicity.

This is a review paper on rebreather diving that is directed at physicians to better inform them when they assessing the risks for their patients.
